How We Test Our Sea Moss (and What We Will Not Claim)

“Lab-tested” is on every product page of ours, so this page says what that means, what it does not mean, and what we will and will not claim. Sea moss is a seaweed, and seaweed pulls whatever is in the water around it into its tissue. That is the reason it is mineral-rich and the reason testing is not optional.

How is Yaow Seamoss tested?

Our organic Purple African sea moss is tested at multiple stages, from sourcing through production, for cleanliness, heavy-metal screening, and batch consistency. We do not publish certificates on the site today, we do not print a per-serving iodine number because it varies by batch, and we do not make health claims off the back of a test result.

Why seaweed has to be tested at all

Seaweed concentrates minerals from seawater. That is the whole appeal, and it is also the risk: the same tissue that holds iodine, calcium, and magnesium can hold heavy metals if the water was polluted, and dried moss that was handled badly can carry bacteria or sand. A pale, uniform “gold” moss can also mean bleaching, which is a processing problem rather than a testing problem, and we cover it on real vs fake sea moss.

Testing does not make sea moss a medicine. It makes it a food you can trust to be what the label says. Everything else on this site, from the benefits page to the side-effects page, is written on that basis.

What we test for

  • Cleanliness: the moss is checked for the things dried seaweed can carry, from sand and debris to microbial contamination, before it becomes gel, drinks, or pops.
  • Heavy-metal screening: seaweed is screened for the metals that polluted water leaves behind. This is the test that matters most for a food people eat daily.
  • Batch consistency: harvests differ. We check that a new batch behaves like the last one so the gel sets, tastes, and keeps the way you expect.

The moss itself is wildcrafted off the East African coast and dried without bleaching, which is why the color varies from bag to bag. Why source comes first explains what we look for before a harvest ever reaches the kitchen.

What we do not claim

  • No per-serving iodine number. Iodine in seaweed varies with where and when it grew. Printing a single figure would look precise and be misleading. The honest guidance lives on sea moss and thyroid and how much sea moss per day.
  • No certificates on the site today. If you need a test summary for a wholesale account or a medical reason, email info@yaowseamoss.net and we will tell you what we can share for the batch in question.
  • No “92 minerals,” no cures, no detox. A test tells you what is in the jar. It does not tell you what the jar will do for you, and we do not pretend otherwise; see what the research actually says.

What made to order adds

Testing covers the raw moss. Freshness covers the finished food. Nothing here sits on a shelf: gel is blended, bottles are filled, and pops are frozen after you order, then shipped cold with dry ice Monday through Wednesday. That is why our gel has a three-to-four-week fridge life instead of a best-by date months out, and why the shelf-life page is honest about it.

How to check any sea moss, including ours

  1. Ask where it was harvested and whether it is wild or pool-grown.
  2. Look at the color: natural purple varies; uniform pale gold is a warning sign.
  3. Run the soak test from real vs fake sea moss: heavy salt crust and no expansion mean pool-grown.
  4. Ask whether it is tested for heavy metals, and whether the seller will say so in writing.
  5. Smell it: clean ocean, not fish counter.

Frequently asked questions

Is Yaow Seamoss tested for heavy metals?

Yes. Heavy-metal screening is one of the three things the moss is tested for, alongside cleanliness and batch consistency, at multiple stages from sourcing through production.

Can I see the test results?

We do not publish certificates on the site today. Email info@yaowseamoss.net with the product and the reason you need it, and we will tell you what we can share for that batch.

Why don’t you list the iodine content?

Because it changes with every harvest. A single number would be false precision. We publish the NIH limits instead and keep serving sizes modest so daily use stays inside them.

Does testing mean sea moss is safe for everyone?

No. Testing addresses contamination, not whether a food suits you. People with thyroid conditions, on thyroid medication, or pregnant or nursing should ask a clinician before daily use; the reasons are on the side-effects page.

This page is information, not medical advice. Ask your clinician about sea moss if you have a health condition, take medication, or are pregnant or nursing.
